MEDICINE ASSISTED THERAPIES

CANNABIS ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

A NEW PARADIGM OF HEALING

Cannabis has been used for thousands of years across cultures and traditions as a plant ally for healing, ritual, and transformation. In the modern therapeutic setting, Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy (CAP) blends the ancient wisdom of this plant with contemporary psychological science, offering a safe, structured, and relational pathway for addressing trauma, depression, anxiety, and deeply held patterns of suffering.

CAP is not about recreational use or escape. Instead, cannabis is used intentionally, at carefully chosen doses, to soften defences, expand awareness, and access deep, often hidden layers of the psyche and body. When held within a strong therapeutic container, this altered state can allow clients to meet what has been exiled within them — trauma, grief, anger, and suppressed emotions — with courage, compassion, and skilled therapeutic guidance.

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
– Rumi

WHY CANNABIS?

Cannabis interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a vital role in emotional regulation, memory, and the processing of fear. Research suggests cannabis has unique potential to:

  • Interrupt rigid trauma patterns stored in the nervous system.

  • Facilitate emotional breakthroughs, allowing repressed emotions such as anger, grief, or fear to surface safely for integration

  • Create experiences of “oceanic boundlessness” — profound states of interconnectedness and release, similar to those observed in classical psychedelic therapy

  • Support ego softening, reducing the grip of shame, hypervigilance, and self-criticism that keep trauma locked in place

  • Assist in the treatment of complex PTSD, dissociation, and treatment-resistant conditions when paired with skilled therapeutic support

Unlike many psychedelics, cannabis offers a gentler, more accessible entry point, making it ideal for clients who need safety, titration, and a less overwhelming experience.
